Connecting to God begins with a personal relationship with God's Son, Jesus. God loved us enough to send Jesus to pay the penalty for our sin (John 3:16).  Because of sin, we are separated from God and are in need of His forgiveness (Romans 3:23). We do not deserve a relationship with God, nor can we do anything to earn a relationship with Him (Ephesians 2:8-9).  It is only because of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection that we can have a relationship with the Father (1 Peter 2:24).  Jesus willingly took the punishment for our sin when he was crucified.  The whole wrath of God was poured out on Jesus so tha we can spend eternity in Heaven (Isaiah 53:5-6)
